The 2013 Ottawa Comic Con website has been updated and it looks like it’ll be a great lineup of Special Guests and something the organizers are calling Comic Book Guests.

2012 was the first year Ottawa hosted a Comic Con and it was, by all accounts, a smash hit with over 22,000 guests last year. This year promises to be even bigger with the great lineup announced so far.

Special Guests this year include:

Adam West, best known as the ‘real’ Batman during the 1960’s run of the TV program (including the 1966 feature film Batman); and his recurring role on Family Guy as Mayor Adam West.

Burt Ward you will remember as the eager sidekick Robin; playing alongside Adam West in Batman during the 60’s. The Dynamic Duo would never be the same without Burt Ward’s Robin.

Wil Wheaton, Ensign Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation is also scheduled to make an appearance. I have to say I never really enjoyed his character on TNG, but I genuinely enjoy his recurring roll as himself on The Big Bang Theory.

You know that if there is a Star Trek actor in attendance (Wil Wheaton), there would have be a counter part from the Star Wars universe. In this case Billy Dee Williams is to make an appearance. Who could forget the scoundrel Lando Calrissian, friend of Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Now, you know the Captain Sweat Pants group of geeks and nerds will be lined up to see Jewel Staite. Who is Jewel Staite you ask? She is a beautiful Canadian actress whose character list includes Kaylee Frye in Firefly, and Dr. Jennifer Keller in Stargate SG-1 and its sister show Stargate Atlantis.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV series) fans will know Nicholas Brendon who portrayed the character Xander Harris. He was also in Children of The Corn 3, and a number of other similar roles.

On the comic book guest side of things, the list does seem short, with only three names so far (I suspect there may be more names coming but that’s only my guess).

Right now, George Pérez, Chris Claremont, and Nick Bradshaw have been announced.

I’m not going to talk about the exhibitors at this time as the artist and exhibitor list is extensive. I’ll write about those details in another update later; let’s just say that the organizers seemed to have attracted quite a selection and I doubt that there will be too many unsatisfied visitors.

The Ottawa Comic Con website (http://www.ottawacomiccon.com/) announced that tickets will go on sale ‘mid January’ but no firm date has been publicized as of today.

The dates for this year’s event are May 10th, 11th, and 12th and it will be held at the Ernst & Young Centre (directions can be found on the Ottawa Comic Con web site http://www.ottawacomiccon.com

I will post updates to this blog as they are made available, and I am hoping to get an interview with the organizers soon. The best way to keep on top of the event however is to put their website into your favorites and keep checking.

If you plan on attending, make sure you get permission from your wives, girlfriends, parents and start planning. It’s time to get your geek on people.
